It's only words... remember?

I met this man more than two years back. Even at that time, he looked nothing like he does in this picture. The picture is very old, FYI.

Any clue who he is? I doubt you do. THIS man is Sayeed Quadri, the most underrated lyricist of our very own hypocritical and thankless Bollywood. Underrated and probably (no wait, definitely!) one of the best.

Anyway, as an industry, or even as movie buffs, we give a damn about lyricists. We put up their songs as status messages, use them as dedications, but not ONCE we try finding out WHO on earth has written them!

We may remember the Gulzars and Javed Akhtars, but only because they are always ‘there’, at their rudest best, throwing their weight around 24*7. Don’t believe me? Try arranging (not getting, I mean just ‘arranging’) an interview with any of them. You will get an idea.

This one, however, does everything possible to fuck up his PR. Stays in Jodhpur, is occasionally seen in town, hardly tries to sell himself to other music directors (thereby limiting his own work). And the deal is, I don’t see him learning the hard way. I don’t see him leaning. Nonetheless, he is, and shall remain one of the finest lyricists the Hindi film industry has ever had. I bow to thee.

A few of his songs…
Maula Mere Maula (Anwar)
Aawarapan Banjarapan (Jism)
Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai (Jism)
Tum Mile (Tum Mile)
Bheege Hont Tere (Murder)
Mann Ki Lagan (Paap)
Chal Chalein Apne Ghar (Woh Lamhe)
Bin Tere Kya Hai Jeena (Woh Lamhe)

And MANY MORE….
